The National Health Service is a wonderful institution and we fully support free health care for all but being the largest employer in the UK and serving over 63 million people means that the NHS as an institution has had to develop streamlined systems to best serve the many people who access NHS care. This means that there often isn't time to personalise care, to get to know each individual or to take the time to care for each person on a personal, physical and emotional level. As private midwives we are able to form relationships of trust with pregnant women, which allows women to feel safe and supported throughout pregnancy, when they go into labour and as they embark on motherhood.
Choosing an independant midwife means not only will you get an excellent standard of care but you also get a personal midwife who knows what you like and don't like, has taken the time to get to know you, your partner and your family personally and by the time you have your baby she will know how best to support you in labour and probably know how you take your tea.
By working independantly North London private midwives have the freedom to offer truly individualised care compared to those working within the NHS, who are often restricted by time, the number of clients, with protocols and guidelines which serve the system and not always the person.
As private midwives we are subject to the same supervision as NHS midwives to keep skills updated and have the same registration requirements with the Nurses Midwives Council.
Neighbourhood MIdwives is an organisation unique to midwifery as we are a social enterprise with 100% employee ownership. We are a sisterhood and our unique working structure means that between us there is a vast amount of skill, experience and knowledge. We are also a support network to one another and well supported midwives mean we can give our all to our clients. We work in partnerships and each client will have met both their primary and secondary midwife which enables seamless care provision for women.
